Goodyear STEM Career Day @ University of Akron:
Goodyear is conducting a Career Day for students interested in engineering careers April 18 at the University of Akron. Hands-on activities will be offered during the day hosted by engineers from 40+ businesses. Info at: www.goodyear.com/careerday 2,000 students will be accepted for the event. Parents may attend with their child. Students will be assigned to a group with 30 others and groups will rotate through the various activities of the day. You can also stop by the Guidance Office, room A114 for a flyer. The deadline to apply is March 13, 2015.


NACA Glenn High School Internship Opportunity:
NASA Glenn Research Center is offering paid 8-week internships for current 10th and 11th graders for summer 2015. Stop by the the Guidance Office, A114 for more info or go to: https://intern.nasa.gov. Applicants must have a 3.0 gpa and be available to work 40 hours per week from June 15-Aug. 7, 2015.

NASA Glenn Research Center is offering paid internships to currnet seniors. Apply at . Stop by Guidance, room A114 for more info. There is a seperate application process for current seniors than for current 10-11th graders.


Mad City Money Competition:
Cardinal Community Credit Union is sponsoring Mad City MoneyCompetition on April 18 at Lakeland College. Teams of 6 students can compete for $3,000 in scholarships. Competition is not unlike the game of "Life". Stop by Guidance for more info. During the game, students take on the role of an adult in a futuristic Mad City. They're given jobs, income, family and debt. The challenge? Visit merchants to select housing, transportation, food, necssities clothing, etc, while building a budget. Interested students can search Youtube and Google for news stories pertaining to this nationwide competition. No special skills are necessary. Teams of 6 must pay a single $20 deposit to enter, but that is refunded in full at the event.


Cleveland Clinic Summer Volunteer Program:
The Cleveland Clinic is recruiting high school students (minimum age 15) for summer volunteering in their Junior Ambassador Program. Submit an interest form at: www.clevelandclinic.org/volunteer More info in Guidance A114. Duties would include greeting patients/visitors, providing escorts, wheelchair escorts, deliver flowers, reading/assisting with crafts. Must commit to 75 hours over 6 of the 8 week session (6/15/15-8/7/15). Minimum gpa 3.0


Explore Kent Chemistry Day:
Kent State is sponsoring Explore Chemistry Day on Feb. 7, 2015 from 10-2. Juniors and seniors interested in chemistry, biochemistry or related sciences are invited to attend. Leadership Lake County:
Current sophomores interested in participating in Leadership Lake County during their junior year may pick up applications in the Guidance Office, room A114. LLC students meet one day per month to explore the county, meet with local leaders. Students from high schools in Lake County participate. Each program day has a theme such as History of Lake County, Business & Economy, Public Safety & Justice, etc. Students develop their leadership skills through workshops and also will work on a service project.


LEAF Advisor:
It is FAFSA filing time for families of senior students. If you would like the handouts from Financial Aid Night have your student stop by the LEAF office or email jcsaszar@leaf-ohio.org. If you have questions about your FAFSA and financial aid contact Jane Csaszar at 440-255-2947. LEAF can help with filing and understanding financial aid.


LAB - Learning About Business:
10th & 11th graders: LAB is a week-long hands-on business simulation held at Lake Erie College in June. Participants form businesses &network with area leaders. This is a great experience regardless of career path. Applications in Guidance A114. Only 65 students from high schools in Lake County are chosen to participate in LAB. Go to www.learningaboutbusiness.org for more details on this valuable experience.


LEAF Advisor:
LEAF will hold a FAFSA FILING DEMONSTRATION session on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:30pm for high school seniors and their parents at the LEAF Resource Center at 8221 Auburn Rd. The session will show parents/students how to file the FAFSA electronically at home. Please register online at www.leaf-ohio.org or call LEAF at (440)358-8045 to reserve a seat or make an appointment. Reservations are required, capacity is limited.


February ACT Test:
Please be advised that the Feb. 7 ACT test will be given at Mentor High School not Memorial Middle School. Please report to C-Lobby by 7:40AM on Feb. 7.

Gymnastics:Congrats Gymnastics:
Over the weekend the gymnastics team attended the Worthington-Kilbourne Invitations in Columbus. The team took 2nd by .1 of a point to Dublin-Coffman. Congratulations to Maddy Marshall for placing 7th on bars, 6th on beam, 2nd on vault and floor and placing 1st all around. Jordan Beebe placed 4th on vault and 5th on bars. Melissa Brozier placed 5th on beam, 4th on floor, 1st on vault and 2nd all around. Please come support us at our last home meet this Friday at 7 pm at Lake Erie Gymnastics.
