Guidance News

Guidance Secretary:
Interested seniors and 10th and 11th graders who wish to opt out of the PSAT test on Oct. 14 can sign up to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test. Sign up in Guidance A114 or see your counselor for more information. Results of the ASVAB can provide you with important information about your skills, abilities and interests and help you get on the right course for a satisfying career. The test will start at 7:30 on Oct 14 and be over about 10:30.

Guidance Secretary:
All students in grades 9-12 are eligible to submit essays to the Profiles in Courage Essay Contest. Essays of up to 1000 words must describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official during or after 1956. Info in Guidance, room A114. Winners will be chosen from the essays submitted by students for across the United States. Deadline is January 6.

LEAF Advisor:
Juniors and parents are invited to a "Researching Colleges Online" session at the LEAF Resource Center at 8221 Auburn Rd in Concord on Wed. Oct 14 at 6:30 pm. This session will address what Juniors can do to prepare for college and how to research colleges on the internet. Registration is required at www.leaf-ohio.org or 440-358-8045

Guidance Secretary:
Sophomores interested in being the MHS ambassador to Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership seminar (HOBY) may pick up information packets in Guidance A114. HOBY is a 3-day event in June where students can develop leadership skills. Info in Guidance A114. Student ambassadors from all over the state of Ohio will also get to meet leaders in our state participate in a variety hands-on activities. There is no cost to the student. MHS has been sending an ambassador to HOBY for many years. Additional info: www.hoby.org.

LEAF Advisor:
"Senior Session" will be held by LEAF at our Resource Center 8221 Auburn Rd, Concord on Wed. Oct. 21 at 6:30pm. This session will explain the ins and outs of a student's college experience, including how to prevent taking the five-year track and the different departments they will be dealing with. Seniors and Parents are invited to attend. Reservations are required www.leaf-ohio.org or 440-358-8045

Intramurals this week South Balcony of the gym at 2:30 pm: Tuesday Ping Pong; Wednesday Dodgeball; Thursdays Student-Faculty Ping Pong Challenge! Staff come on up and show your skills.

The Mentor Cardinals (4-1) traveled to Solon (3-2) to take on the Comets. Unfortunately, the Comets came out on top 42-35 in a back and forth battle. The Cards started the scoring with a Tadas Tatarunas to Malik Porter 40 yard TD. Alex Mathews then scored on a 1 yard TD run giving Mentor a 14-0 lead. Solon scored twice to tie the score at 14 going into halftime. Mentor's Deangelo Levert blocked a punt which was picked off in the air by Michael Ballentine and returned for a 12 yard score to start the 3rd quarter. Tatarunas then hit Jason Blizzard for a 61 yard TD strike. Mathews scored the final Cardinal TD with a 10 yard run. The Cards return home next week to host Medina at the JTO on Friday, October 9th. See you there for the 7:00 pm kickoff. GO CARDS!

Last year's lists were discontinued June 3.You need to resubscribe to receive emails for the 2015-2016 school year. If you didn't resubscribe after that date, you will not receive emails.
