Wonderful Weekend
It was another great weekend for Mentor High Athletics!  All teams competing this weekend March 6th and 7th did a great job.
The boys basketball team won their sectional final defeating Collinwood Saturday night.  The boys will take on Madison in a district semi-final game on Thursday at Euclid.  Game time is 7:15pm.
The wrestling team did very well in the state tournament with all wrestlers advancing to the second round.  The big winner though was Dylan Zivcic who placed 5th in his weight class.  Congrats to Coach Skilton and our wrestling team.
The girls basketball team won a district championship on Saturday defeating Mayfield by 18 points.  The girls advance to the regional semi-finals at the Canton Civic Center tomorrow night for an 8pm game.  They will play Wadsworth.  Congrats to Coach Thompson and all the girls.
Lastly, our girls gymnastics team placed 4th in the state on Friday at the state gymnastics meet!  Special mention goes out to Kayla Kosmeri who placed 5th on the bars in the individual competition on Saturday.  Congrats to all the girls and to Coach Corrigan on a great meet!!
Tickets for both the boys and girls tournament games are available in the athletic office.  Lets show our support to our kids!!

Girls Basketball
Congratulations to the Girls Basketball team in their victory over Mayfield 59-41 on Saturday March 7th.  They recaptured the District Championship with their win! Leading scorer was Kelsey Berger with 27 points. Tickets for Mentor's girl's basketball regional semi-final game on Tuesday March 9th in Canton will be on sale in the Mentor High Athletic office from 8am to 2pm on Monday and Tuesday March 8th and 9th.  Tickets will also be on sale Monday evening from 5pm to 7pm in the gym lobby.  Tickets are $6.00 presale and $8.00 at the gate.  The Lady Cardinals take on Wadsworth Tuesday night at 8pm at the Canton Civic Center 1101 Market Ave. North, Canton.
Hockey
Congratulations to the Cardinal Hockey team for winning their first state playoff game, defeating Solon 6-4. Way to go guys! Come support the Cardinal Hockey team Saturday Feb 28th as the Cards take on cross town rivals Lake Catholic and hope to advance to their second district Semi - Final game in two years. Game time is 5pm @ Kent State University Ice Arena.
Wrestling
Congratulations to the following wrestlers who qualified to the State Tournament: Jordan Victor, Mike Skilton, Dylan Zivcic, Damien Perry, and Manny McLaughlin. Wish them luck as they will be competing this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday March 5th-7th.
Gymnastics
Congratulations to the Girls Gymnastics team on qualifiying to the State tournament this Friday and Saturday March 6th and 7th in Columbus! The team took fifth place securing the final slot for team competition with a total team score of 140.275 against 18 teams.
The individuals qualifying to compete in the top 17 spots on Saturday are:
Vault-Kayla Kosmerl (9.075) - 3rd place, Lizzy Aiello (8.825) - 16th place,
Uneven Bars- Kayla Kosmerl (9.05) - 7th place
Balance Beam- Allie Arthur (9.2) - 2nd place, Alex Aiello (8.65) - 16th place,
All Around- Kayla Kosmerl (36.625) - 3rd place, Allie Arthur (34.925) - 16th place
This is the first time since 2004 that the Gymnastics team has qualified for States! Good luck in Columbus Girls!
Swimming
Congratulations to the swimmers that qualified for the State swim Championship meet held at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in North Canton this past weekend Feb. 28th. Here are the final results:

Cheerleading
Attention all girls currently in grades 8-11 that are interested in cheering for Mentor next year!  Information about Mentor High School cheerleading tryouts for the 2009-2010 seasons is now available in the main office at the Middle Schools and the athletic office at Mentor High.  Interested students must complete and return the forms contained in the information packet to the Mentor High School athletic office no later than 3:00 p.m. on February 25th in order to participate in skills clinics, tryout clinics and tryouts.

City of Mentor Day at Progressive Field

Join your neighbors in cheering on the Tribe at the City of Mentor Day at Progressive Field on Sunday, April 26, 2009! 

The 1:05 p.m. game against the Minnesota Twins will feature a performance by Mentor High School's own Top 25, and all kids 14 and under will receive a Jhonny Peralta wristband/headband set and can run the bases post-game! 

Tickets purchased in advance from Top 25 or the City are $2 off face value, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the performance group, now in its 44th year. Seats are located in the upper box section of Progressive Field, and may be purchased in any quantity for $18 each.

The group is also raffling off several suite packages for the game. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased by calling or e-mailing the above contacts.

3rd Prize: Two complimentary club seats to a future 2009 game
