BIG PLAY CARDINAL FOOTBALL

The Mentor Cardinals opened their 2009 season with a win over the St. Edward
Eagles 28-15.   Big plays made the difference during the rain soaked
evening.  Graeme McKnight started the Mentor scoring with a 61 yard punt
return for a TD in the 2nd quarter.  Brandon Urankar followed that up with
an even bigger 98 yard interception return for a TD.  Mike Korecz added two
touchdown runs of 2 and 9 yards to round out the scoring.  STAT OF THE
NIGHT:  After giving up over 300 yards of offense to St. Ed's in the first
half, The Cardinal defense stiffened up and gave up only 150 yards in the
second half.  Join us next Friday at home as the Strongsville Mustangs
visit.  Sorry for the lack of posted stats.  We'll get that fixed and post
them as soon as possible ... Go Cards!
