ACT’s Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS) is made up of four elements:
EXPLORE (for eighth and ninth graders)
1. School Uses - Structure high school planning and career exploration for students and parents, provide baseline for monitoring students’ progress on academic skill development, provide baseline for assessing instructional outcomes in selected academic skills.
2. Academic Assessment - English, Mathematics (using calculator), Reading, Science Reasoning.
3. Other Components - Biographical Data, Interest Inventory, Needs Assessment, Study Skills Checklist.
1. School Uses - Provide basis for post-high school educational and career planning for students and parents, monitor students’ progress on academic skill development, provide measure for assessing instructional outcomes in selected academic skills.
2. Academic Assessment - English, Mathematics, Reading, Science Reasoning.
3. Prediction of success on the ACT Assessment.
4. Other Components - Biographical Data, Interest Inventory, Needs Assessment.
ACT ASSESSMENT (for high school juniors and seniors)
1. School Uses - Facilitate student postsecondary planning and transition, monitor student progress on academic skill development, provide final measure for assessing instructional outcomes in selected academic skills.
2. College Uses - Admissions and placement decisions, athletic eligibility decisions, scholarship awards.
3. Academic Assessment - English, Mathematics, Reading, Science Reasoning
4. Other Components - Biographical Data, Interest Inventory, Needs Assessment, High School Course/Grade Information.
WORK KEYS (for high schoolers and adults)
1. School Uses - Facilitate student planning for and transition into the workplace, monitor students’ progress in attaining workplace skills, provide outcomes measures to assist in seeking and securing employment.
2. Employer Uses - Employment and training decisions.
3. Academic Assessment - Listening and Writing, Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, Applied Technology, Locating Information, Observation, Teamwork.
4. Other Components - Biographical Data, Employment Information.
