The Advice Column

Dear Inkwell Advice,
I just told my extremely religious friend that I am agnostic. She’s really upset with me, but I know it’s my own ch6oice. What should I do?
-Concerned

Dear Concerned,
Religion can be a very touchy subject sometimes. Think of it this way, the way that you feel about being agnostic is the way that your friend feels about believing in her religion. Perhaps you should explain your case and let her explain hers. Make sure you really listen, and remember you can’t listen with your mouth open. If you both really have a problem discussing your beliefs, then maybe you should just steer clear of the subject. Let her know that she doesn’t have to agree with your opinions, but she does have to respect them.

Dear Inkwell Advice,
I’m getting frustrated with the teaching methods of particular teachers of mine. I’ve gone to them for extra help, but the teachers explain the topic no better than the first time around. What should I do? My grades are rapidly declining because of this.
-Frustrated

Dear Frustrated,
Do you have friends in any of these tough classes? If so, you could invite them to your house for a cup of coffee after school, so they can help you get caught up. If you don’t really know anyone in the courses you need help with, I recommend returning to your Jr. High school and asking some of your former teachers to give you a hand. They would probably be happy to.
