Uniforms and Equipment

Clothing - Most soldiers carried the same amount and type of clothing. It could include wool drawers, wool shirts, wool stockings, a pair of heavy boots, pair of light blue pad rifle cleats, a dark blue jacket (commonly called a Roundabout), a large light blue overcoat with a cape, a dark blue cap, and a blouse or stable jacket. Every man was allowed two suits, one worn for marching.

Artillery - Most men had a 6 barrel revolver and a saber or sword for when they ran out of cartridges.

Carried - Every soldier had a backpack that carried their necessary supplies. Items carried could include a mess plate, tin cup, utensils (fork, knife, and spoon), candles, a folding razor, a folding comb, a diary, a pencil, hardtack, a small sewing kit, and rifle cleaning tools.
