Cardinal Playoff Frenzy
The Mentor Cardinal football team picked apart the Solon Comets 45-0 in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. The Cards scored half way through the first quarter with a Kevin Harper field goal and never looked back. Bart Tanski ran a 5 yard score followed by a Bill Deitmen 14 yard TD. Tanski then hit Brandon James for a 22 yard score. The Cardinals final 3 TD's were on runs by Deitmen, Josh Weaver and Matt Dings of 26, 5 and 3 yards respectively. The Cardinal defense had 3 interceptions on the night with JJ Laseak, Mario DeSanto & Brandon Mack each with a pick. Solon also turned the ball over to Mentor with 2 fumbles allowing the Cards to score repeatedly. STAT OF THE NIGHT: The Cards only gave up 231 yards in their first game against Solon in September. They improved on that tonight by only giving up 160 total yards. Congrats Defense!!! The victory gives the Cardinals another chance to play at Cleveland Browns stadium next Saturday against Glenville (who also won this evening). Game time is to be determined. Look for details on the game next week and we hope to see you downtown to watch the Cards continue their march. GO CARDS!
