Mighty Cardinal Football
The Football Cardinals put together a sweet victory over the Strongsville Mustangs 24-17. The scoring started when Bill Deitmen kept his balance and danced down the sidelines for a 50 yard TD run. Kevin Harper then kicked a 44 yard field goal giving the Cards a 10-0 lead heading into the second quarter. Strongsville scored the next 10 points but with 7:54 left in the 3rd quarter, Bart Tanski ran a 5 yard TD followed by a Harper extra point making it a 17-10. After Strongsville tied the score again, Mentor scored the winning TD with 5:55 left in the game. Deitmen ran for his second score on the evening with a 6 yard TD scamper giving the Cards the 24-17 lead. The final Strongsville drive fizzled giving the Cards their 2-0 record heading into week #3. Join us next week as the team plays it's first game on the new field at Mentor. The big match up will take place on Friday, September 8th starting at 7:00 p.m. against the Solon Comets. GO CARDS!
