Last year in gym Mr. Mackar had a new student named Sinisa Ubiparipovic.
Although Sinisa had just come from Bosnia and could not speak much English, Mr. Mackar could understand one thing about him for sure, that he was a gifted soccer player.
During the soccer unit Mr. Mackar asked Sinisa to consider trying out for the school soccer team.
But, Sinisa decided to wait until this school year to try out for the school soccer team, because he wanted to adjust to the new school and learn more English.
"It was all very new" he commented about coming to the United States and to a new high school.
It was difficult coming to a new country and not knowing the language, any people there, and missing his family and friends back in Bosnia.
He decided to play on a club team, improve his English, then try out. The club team he played on last year did extremely well, making it to state finals.
This year Sinisa plays for Mentor's soccer team, as a foreward. This is the first time he has played the foreward position, even though he has played soccer all of his life.
So far his favorite part of the saeson has been the Strongsville game, the first of the season, with a 1-0 victory.
Since then the team has done very well, and Sinisa hopes that Mentor can become state champion.
His other goal is to get a soccer scholarship.
When asked about the best part of playing soccer, Sinisa said he like making goals was definately the best part.
However, he had to think before stating that the only bad part of soccer was playing against people that "don't know how to play."
