The Mentor Cardinals needed only 2 quarters to put away the Shaker Heights Red Raiders 35-6. This raises the Cardinal record to 8-1 heading into the final regular season game next week against Euclid (7-2). Provided the website www.joeeitel.com is correct, this victory clinched a playoff spot for the Cardinals. A win next week against Euclid should insure a home playoff game in the first round. The Mentor scoring was led by Bill Deitmen who had TD runs of 18, 10, 2 & 13 yards respectively. Bart Tanski hit Brandon James on an 80 yard touchdown to end the second quarter scoring taking a 35-0 halftime lead into the locker room. Mentor's first team defense held Shaker scoreless in the first half while the Cardinal's second team defense only gave up 6 points in the second half all of this against the first team offense for Shaker. Congrats to the entire defense! STAT OF THE GAME: Deitmen had only 7 carries (65 yards) on the night while James had only 1 reception (80 yards). These 8 touches by Mentor's leading rusher and receiver accounted for 5 scores on the evening! Join us next week as the Euclid Panthers visit Mentor on Friday, October 27th starting at 7:30 p.m. Let's pack the stands and pull for the Cardinals to head into the playoffs on a winning note. GO CARDS!
