The Mentor Cardinals ended their exciting 2014 season with a loss to the Hudson Explorers 41-20. The Cards ended the year with another outstanding regular and playoff season run. Although the 11-2 Cards fell short of the state title, there are so many things to be proud of . The offense racked up 5,421 yards compared to 3,514 for the competition! Mentor scored 73 TD's compared to only 31 for the competition!! We scored 519 points vs. 234 from the opponents!!! The Cards amassed 293 first downs compared to 192 from the competition!!!! We averaged 199 yard rushing per game vs. 137 from the opponents!!!!! And we had the best group of Senior leadership which allowed this team to succeed since summer two-a-days!!!!!! The Mentor community is very proud of the way the 2014 Mentor football Cardinals kept us entertained and always looking forward to the next game. GO CARDS!

The Mentor Cardinals took the short drive down to Akron to play the Canton GlenOak Golden Eagles in their second round playoff game and came away with a convincing 38-14 victory. The Cards scored twice in the opening quarter with a touchdown reception by Jason Blizzard and a Jake Floriea TD run. Mentor took a slim 14-6 lead into the half but came out and quickly scored 17 points in the 3rd quarter. Eddie Daugherty scored on a 64 yard TD catch and run while Blizzard caught his second TD on the evening. Tyler Thompson also kicked a 21 yard field goal to round out the 3rd quarter scoring. The Card's final score came on an Alex Mathews gallop of 60 yards for a TD. STAT OF THE NIGHT: The defense held GlenOak to only 102 yards in the second half and 236 for the game. So the stage is now set for the rematch with Hudson. Join us on Saturday, November 22nd week when the 11-1 Cardinals take on the 12-0 Explorers at a site to be determined. GO CARDS!!!

The Mentor Cardinals started their playoff run with a 49-34 victory over the visiting Lorain Titans. The Cards got off to a 14-0 lead and never looked back. Scoring first was Eddie Daugherty when he caught a Jake Floriea 8 yard TD pass. Jerrell Jackson scored next on a 1 yard run. Mentors second quarter scoring started with a Malik Porter 8 yard TD reception from Floriea. This wrapped up the first half with a 21-6 Mentor lead. Mentors second half points all came via the running game when Alex Mathews, Eddie Daugherty, Jake Floriea & Jerrell Jackson scored TDs. STAT OF THE GAME: The Mentor defense held the Titans to 0-3 on their 4th down attempts thus turning the ball over to the Cards. The 10-1 Mentor Cardinals will now take on the Canton Glen Oak Golden Eagles next Saturday, November 15th at a site to be announced. CARDINALS HEADING TO THE PLAYOFFS The Mentor Cardinals ran through the rain and defeated the Strongsville Mustangs 37 -7 on Halloween night to finish the regular season at 9-1. The rainy evening didnt slow the Cards down as scoring started with a TD pass from Jake Floriea to Eddie Daugherty for 25 yards. The Mentor defense then sacked the Strongsville QB in the end zone for a safety giving the Cards a 9-0 lead. Floriea then ran a 40 yard TD followed by a 6 yard score giving the Cards a 23-7 halftime lead. Jason Blizzard ran a 21 yard score and Jerrell Jackson finished the scoring on a 1 yard TD to end the 3rd quarter with a 37-7 lead. This ended up being the final score with the running clock in the 4th quarter. STAT OF THE NIGHT: Mentor ran up 438 yards of offense while the defense held Strongsville to only 141 yards of total offense. Bring on the Playoffs! The Cards will play next Saturday night on November 8th. Stay tuned on details for the opponent. GO CARDS!!!
