Class work Finished the Carl Stokes clip from Friday in mods 3-4 and 11-12.  Then the class used their books to answer questions #1-3 on the back side of the page from Thursday.  After going over the answers, the class took a short amount of notes on the differences between Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.  Get the notes from a classmate or see Miss Scharf to copy them from the overhead.  The class then watched short video clips showing Malcolm X.

 

Homework: Finish the back side of the page from Thursday for homework, #4 to 13.  This is due tomorrow.  None will be accepted late, so don't forget to do your homework.

Class work:  Finished the video clips from yesterday showing Malcolm X.  Today, we watched the segment on his assassination.  Then last night's homework was checked,  and we went over the answers see Miss Scharf to turn yours in.  Pull from the in class folder or download the readings on the Black Panthers: The 10 Points Rules of the BPP,  and Community Programs.  Read these, highlighting short phrases of main ideas.

Class work:  Checked last night's homework.  Watched the video clip on the Black Panthers and then compared their beliefs to the findings of the Kerner Commission Report.  This report was published after a government investigation into the riots of 1968.  The report lists the reasons for the riots.  Notice the similarities between the government's findings and the needs of the black community as listed in the BPP's 10 Points.  Pull the Kerner Commission Report reading from the in class folder; sorry, it's not available for download.

 

Homework: Answer questions # 26 to 50 on the Civil Rights review sheet.  Prepare notebooks to be checked on Friday, May 12.  Study for the Civil Rights, Chapter 21 Test.  Test is on Friday.

Class work Checked and discussed last night’s homework.  The class then reviewed yesterday’s video clips on the Birmingham protests; get these notes from Miss Scharf or from a class mate.  If you feel the video notes are descriptive enough, then you do not need to make up the video clip.  The class then took notes over Chapter 21, Section 2.  We only filled in the section on the March on Washington and then we watched the video clip on the march.

Class work: We started class by watching clips from Good Night, Good Luck  to see footage of Edwards R. Murrow and Joseph McCarthy.  This does not have to be made up.  I passed back the Chapter 18, Section 4 assignment from last week, we went over the answers, and discussed how the CIA's involvement in Iran and Guatemala has affected the way America is viewed by foreign countries.  The class then took a short amount of notes from the overhead about the CIA.  Get the notes from a classmate or download them here.

 

Homework: Read the article, The War on Terror Reminds Some of McCarthy.  While reading, underline or highlight short phrases of important information about McCarthy's actions and how those relate to the current War on Terror.

Class work: Watched scenes from The Atomic Cafe.  There is no video sheet; this is a fun series of clips that show the "duck and cover" atomic bomb drills.  It's up to you to decide whether or not you want to schedule a time to make it up.  In the second half of class, students started the Chapter 18, Section 4 assignment.

Homework:  Use your book to answer the questions on NATO and the Warsaw Pact, fill in the map on the back, and color the map, showing the NATO countries, Warsaw Pact countries and the non-aligned countries.  Pull the map from the in class folder or download it here: front side and back side.

 

The Social Studies OGT review sessions are tomorrow, Wednesday 3/8, and Thursday 3/9.  I'd encourage all of you to go, and you can earn 5 points of extra credit for each session that you attend.  All of the sessions will be held from 2:45 to 3:45.

Class work:  Collected last night's homework.  Passed out an OGT practice sheet.  In class, everyone took about five minutes to answer the questions, then we went over the answers to prepare for next week's test.  Pull the practice page from the in class folder or download it: front side and back side.  Complete the page and check your answers against a classmate's.  Keep all OGT papers in the "General Information" section of your notebook.  We then read facts from the first nuclear packet.  Pull a packet from the in class, make-up work folder.  Read it and return it to the folder, I just made one set for us to read during class.

 

Homework:  Read and highlight short phrases of important information from both sides of the "After the Explosion" article.  Pull the reading from the in class folder or download it here: front side and back side.
