Biology Honors is an introductory course for students who have completed the Concepts-level math courses listed above as the prerequisites, and who plan to pursue a college program in the sciences or who have a keen interest in biology. The emphasis of this course is on the understanding of the concepts of biology as they apply to a variety of organisms and on insight and reasoning as a means of determining the answer to a problem or question. An in-depth research project is a major component required in this course. Topics covered are: scientific method, biochemistry, cell biology, photosynthesis, cellular respiration, DNA and protein synthesis, genetics, evolution, microbiology, botany, zoology, taxonomy, anatomy and physiology, and ecology. This course provides the necessary background for the AP Biology program.
