The Top 25 Show Choir is a select group of students from the Music Department at Mentor High School.
The singers are chosen by audition in the Spring for their singing, dancing and performance abilities.
The Show Choir was founded in 1965, and is now in its fortieth year of performances serving Lake County
and the northeast areas of Ohio.
Forty years ago, the Mentor Top 25 was one of very few show choirs in existence. Many communities
looked to the Top 25 for their model in creating their own show choir in their school districts.
The Top 25 was asked to perform for many schools and work shops, including Fred Waring and the
Pennsylvanians!
Today, the group still performs regularly for community events, schools, church organizations,
banquets, business meetings, and at festivals in northeast Ohio. Performing tours in the United
States have included travel to major cities on the east coast, west coast, and in between.
They have traveled to Canada, Mexico, and many European countries, including Scandinavia, England,
France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
They have been the featured performers on two performance cruises in the Caribbean.
During competition years, the Top 25 took many awards from choreography to soloist.
In 2004, the group was recognized by the show choir competition company, Fame Events, as
one of the top 30 competing show choirs in America!
This year, they will be touring the Hawaiian Islands. The Top 25 is proud to continue the tradition
of being ambassadors of Mentor and represent our school and community with pride and excellence.
Top 25 is under the direction of Laurel Kunes, who is a Top 25 alumna. They are choreographed by
Abby Lausin, Allen Yee, Marlene Leber and Tony Gonzalez.
